In September 2014, Northwest Tank Lines hosted a Transcaer safety conference in Southeast Calgary. A one-half acre site of CN’s rail yard was set up with six different hazmat training stations providing diverse training for all the attendees. Some of the stations included: CP Rail’s hands-on chemical foam spraying activity, chemical distributors Univar and Brenntag with many hazmat containers, 5 different chemical producers (Dow, Nova, ERCO, Canexus, and Agrium) with their emergency response units, Quantum Murray bringing various pieces of emergency equipment, 4 government regulatory agencies holding classroom sessions, and Northwest running an exhibit regarding safety features of three different chemical and compressed gas tank trailers. Over the two day Transcaer conference, we hosted 250 community first responders and various industry shippers and customers – what a turnout!
