Scholarship Program

The application deadline is July 1st! To apply, click here.

The Northwest Tank Lines Opportunity Through Education scholarship program provides scholarships of $1500 to families of active Northwest team members who are pursuing education in Canada or the United States. Applicants are evaluated on their scholastic achievement, career planning and goals, community involvement and extra-curricular activities.

Our 2007 scholarship recipients, Teil Grant, Jiyoung Hwang and Lauren Islaub have all demonstrated excellence in each of these areas.

Teil Grant, has had two big loves in her life, dance and photography. Inspired by the images of Rolling Stone Magazine and Vogue as well as star photographer Annie Leibovitz, Teil, a graduate of Langley Fine Arts School, will be pursuing the Langara College Photography Certificate Program in pursuit of her dream of becoming a world class photographer.

Jiyoung Hwang, daughter of Northwest’s Myung-Su Hwang, graduated at the top of her class at Yale Secondary School. The gold medal winner of many a math and science competition, Jiyoung will be embarking on the ScienceOne program at UBC en route to fulfilling her dream of attending medical school and becoming a dermatologist where she intends to not only help patients but also uncover the secrets (and perhaps find a cure) of Atopic dermatitis.

Lauren Islaub, daughter of Northwest’s VP of Operations Steve Islaub, always wanted to be a forensic scientist, like the ones we watch on CSI. After a bit more research, however, she realized that the ideal role for her would be as a civilian member of the RCMP - an analyst. Lauren is currently pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Criminology with a joint major in Sociology at Simon Fraser University and hopes to attend a criminology field school abroad for one semester.

Congratulations to each of these outstanding recipients.
