TransCAER

TransCAER stands for "Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response." It is a voluntary community outreach initiative established in the 1970's and pre-dates Responsible Care. In general, the Responsible Care partner code of practice on TransCAER calls for Northwest to dialogue openly with all it's stakeholders in the development and maintenance of effective emergency response capabilities. This communication of our expectations to our customers, in co-operation with the transportation industry, reduces safety risks.

As a founding member of the Canadian TransCAER initiative, Northwest has actively participated in more than 40 community outreach activities over the past 20 years. These activities include numerous joint chemical industry/first responder/carrier emergency response workshops and numerous simulated hazmat transportation incidents. Northwest is a champion of the TransCAER initiative.
